The Thriller Genre

The Thriller genre can be defined in many ways. It is a drama full of suspense and tense moments to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. A thriller has to be fast paced and have a impressive storyline that has a twist to confuse the audience. All information from: www.imdb.com

Examples of Thrillers: Taken, the poster shows that the main character is looking for something as he is looking behind him, it  relate's to suspiscion as it is like he is looking at someone with suspiscion, this relates to the title as someone is taken and in the letters there is a young girl is the one that has been taken. The gun could show that he is out to kill someone or hurt them and the fact that he is in a suit could show that he is high working or in a business. The film is conventional as it is a male lead but unconventional as he is very old and in action flims you dont usally see the main character as been old

Prometheus (2012) Poster

Prometheus: The poster shows a few central characters in a room with a statue of a face in the middle, this could show that it is an epic film as the face is of epic proportion saying that it is directed by the person that made alien and gladiator shows that it has a wide audinence as fans of the directors flims will want to watch it and the flim itself is sci-fi so fans of alien will want to watch this. The mist and dark room that the characters are in creates suspense and mystery as you dont know what is beneath them.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) Poster

The dark knight rises: The poster shows batman stood in the centre looking down so you cant fully see his face, this creates mystery or that he is hiding something. But the low angle shot the picture is taken could also show that he is dominant and that he is looking down on everyone and not to hide something. The surrounding buildings could relate to the tag line ' a fire will rise' as the fire above him is rising up the buildings.
I Am Legend (2007) Poster

I am legend: The poster puts the main charater in the centre of the frame showing that he is important and showing the destroyed city behind him helps the audinece astablish the setting of the film, which is post-apocalyptic. This also helps with the tag line since it says ' The last man on earth is not alone'. So this is also showing post-apocalyptic connotations as everyone else is dead and he is the only one left , but saying he isnt alone creates mystery and draws audiences in to watch it.
Casino Royale (2006) Poster

Casino Royale: The poster for Casino Royale shows James Bond on a poker table with his gun which is significant to the franchise as James Bond films are action based and involve alot of guns. The title Casino Royale intergrates 007 inside the title which is also significant to James Bond as that is his code name. And the 7 of double 007 is shaped like a gun which then relates back to James Bond's iconic action. Showing James Bond in a suit shows that he is trying to blend in with the high class that are playing poster. And showing him looking at something shows that he is looikng for something or someone, or to show suspiscion.
